CFP: Spring/Summer 2020 Issue!

The American Society for Aesthetics Graduate E-journal (ASAGE) is seeking submissions for its first issue of 2020. We currently accept three main types of submissions for inclusion in our standard journal issues: articles, reviews of recently published books in aesthetics, and brief dissertation abstracts. We briefly sketch submission requirements below, but more information can be found under “Submissions” as well.

Articles

ASAGE accepts papers on any topic in aesthetics, written by graduate students who have not yet completed final requirements for the doctoral degree. Submissions should be under 3000 words (although exceptions may be made at the editor’s discretion, to a maximum of 5000 words, particularly in the case of historical papers). They must be accompanied by an abstract of no more than 250 words and a word count. Only one paper per author will be considered for any given issue.

Book Reviews

ASAGE considers proposals for book reviews of no more than 1,000 words in length on an ongoing basis. To propose a book review, send the title, author and date of publication of the book that you would like to review, along with a 100 – 200 word description of why you think this book should be reviewed in ASAGE, and why you are qualified to do the review, to asa(dot)graduate(dot)ejournal@gmail(dot)com. Proposals for book reviews must be approved by the editor in advance.

Dissertation Abstracts

ASAGE is now accepting brief dissertation abstracts summarizing in-progress and recently completed dissertations in the philosophy of art. Ph.D. students in aesthetics worldwide who have completed all of their degree requirements within the last year are invited to submit a dissertation abstract of 250 words or less for publication. Please submit your abstract using the online article submission system and include the date of defense, degree received and the names of your Advisory Committee. Current ASA membership is required for persons publishing dissertation abstracts, but not articles or book reviews.

In addition to these submissions for our main journal, ASAGE is excited to announce the introduction of a new format for conversation for students in aesthetics called Fast Philosophy. Fast philosophy pieces are accepted on a rolling basis and published separately from standard ASAGE issues. These papers are designed to be brief conversational pieces with which ASA members can start a dialogue about current topics in aesthetics. Submissions of 500-750 words are welcomed and should focus on a narrower topic than would traditional journal articles. It is our hope that through these discussions, authors will be able to refine their arguments, modify their scope of discussion, and find new resources and literature on the topic(s), which will help authors develop longer, journal or conference presentation length projects.

All submissions should be written according to the specifications of The Chicago Manual of Style, 16th ed. Submitted articles will be screened to ensure that they meet submission guidelines, and successful submissions will be selected by anonymous review based on quality of philosophical work and reference to current debates in aesthetics. Submissions should be sent as a Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect file with the subject line “Submission” to asa.graduate.ejournal@gmail.com. The submission deadline for the first 2020 issue is April 7, 2020
